5 Things I Want to Share:
1. Last week due to my overall abandonment of my laundry I decided to try on some pants that I hadn't for a while on a whim. I had no idea they would fit. Get this - I have been a size 9 or 11 for at least four years now. Sometimes an 8. These were a SIZE SIX! Woohoo!! Score! (and they were work pants - and that in itself should be an extra excitement because they are higher waisted and tighter on the bum so more of a challenge).
2. I had my makeup and hair trials and they went great. I switched the people I'm working with last minute due to some disagreements and snarki-ness on their part, and I'm glad I did. The two girls I have now are fantastic and I know they will help us look beautiful on the big day!
3. Speaking of the big day, 53 days to go. Oh. My. God. I just showed Dan the calendar - we are almost done February...then we have the month of March, and then just about two weeks. That's it. It's so close!
4. I have such mixed feelings about paying for this wedding. I have always been very independent financially and have paid for everything of my own since I was in highschool (but didn't start paying rent until after college). So to say that we are paying for it all ourselves is exciting to me because I feel a great deal of pride knowing that we are doing it on our own. I also want to whine every time I see the Google Doc I have made with every expense that we have put towards this wedding (literally - EVERY expense down to the last penny). When all is said and done, I'm so happy that 1) We are only getting married once because it's not cheap! lol and 2) We are doing it together.
5. The smartest thing we could have ever done is Honeyfund! The bridal shower gifts helped pay a HUGE chunk of our honeymoon already! That combined with a generous gift from our awesome brother in law/sister and law and a gift from my grandmother we have made serious headway with our honeymoon balance. It's great! On the days that I am overwhelmed about what we still have to do or anxious about who is judging how we are doing our wedding (I try as hard as I can to not care, but easier said than done), I just picture us on the beaches of St. Thomas and St. John! I am sooooo excited for our first vacation as Mr. and Mrs.!
I hope all of you have been staying warm and dry with this insane weather!

Getting my sweat on
So nutrisystem has been great for me. A no-brainer. I eat nutrisystem all day long and if I don't cheat, I continue to lose weight or maintain. I have not gained at all since I've been on it. I cheated a lot the first two or three months on it, so it would probably be more by now had I not, but so far I have lost 13 pounds with it.
I am officially about 5 pounds from my goal weight!
So now it's time to tone up!
I needed something new and heard good things about Jillian Michael's "Ripped in 30" dvd so I got it from Target a few weeks ago for ten bucks.
I tried it for the first time tonight and I loved it!
Here's the jist:
*It's 24 minutes. That's it.
*It has cardio, strength, and abs.
*I actually liked it.
*I can turn on fun music and still follow along while not listening to her pep talk (I get annoyed with that stuff when I'm working out!)
Yay!
I'm hoping I can stick with this. I have a spot in my office to workout in all by myself with the door closed, which really helps. I'm always self-conscious if I'm in a main living area where Dan is around. He would never say anything or purposely interrupt of course, it's just my own insecurities.
Anyways, wish me luck! I need to get back on the workout train and get some sexy wedding arms!
Which, by the way...
67 days to go!!
omg :)

Work it out!
So working with my personal trainer is AWESOME! She's really tough and I get a great workout every time. Plus she's been coming up with a plan for me so that when I'm not with her, I know exactly what to do at home or at the gym.
So to give you an idea, last time I was with her I did a 5 minute walk warm-up on the treadmill. Then I did circuits of a bunch of exercises. One was doing squats jumping up and down with one leg going onto one of those half ball things... see picture below to see an idea of what I mean.

Then I also did stuff with the TRX straps she has hanging from her ceiling (I'm always afraid I'm going to yank her ceiling out, but she assures me that it's attached very securely).
See below pictures for what I did with that.
![]() |
I pulled myself up like this - I REALLY felt it in my arms for the next couple days. |
![]() |
This was kind-of cool too...very controlled and slow movement. My arms were shaking! |
Then I did some lower ab roll outs with the yoga ball too.
I'm sure there was more, but I can't remember since that was last Thursday! But anyways she does it similar to Jillian Michaels... 3 exercises in a rotation and then 3 new exercises in a rotation. There's always stretching afterwards and I always work up a great sweat!
Here's what she had me do tonight: 30 minutes on the treadmill at the gym. I did 5 minutes of warm-up at 3.2 mph. (I always put it on the incline of 1.0 because I've read that treadmills are usually below the ground level at 0.0 so it's better to put it at 1.0 to be leveled out). Then for 20 minutes I would sprint for 30 seconds (for me this is between 5.8 - 6.0 mph) and then have one recovery minute of walking (for me - 3.4 or 3.5). I did this for the 20 minutes and then ended with 5 minutes of cool-down at 3.2. It was really interesting to do it this way! I love intervals but I've never done such small ones! It made the 30 minutes go by really fast!
Then when I got home I had to do burpees, push-ups, and squats with a dumbbell! See below for my workout to-do list (yes, I crossed them off as I did it so I felt good about it! ha, such a nerd). (NOTE: I HATE burpees! They suck so bad!)
![]() |
dell = Dumbbell. Yeah, I'm not sure why I did that. Let's go with it. |
Anyways, I've been working really hard and I really hope that I can see some great results! Last Summer was the heaviest for me, and since then I have lost 12 pounds. I'm hoping to get to my happy weight of fitting my clothes well and still having curves (I found this weight when I got off of the birth control pills for a bit - I wish my uterus didn't suck without them every month, otherwise I could just do that and lose the weight!). To get to that happy weight I would need to lose another 16 pounds. I think it's doable! I'm hoping that working with Abby can give me some great motivation and some new ideas.
I've read and heard that it takes 21 days to form a habit. This will be my first week where I will have my two days with Abby and then three-four days of her workouts on my own. (the past two weeks have been hard to schedule because of schedule conflicts for both of us) I'm excited to see where this will take me!

The mother of all insulting comments for a woman to hear...
"Hey Ms. Strunk! You look like you're pregnant!"
Womp, womp, womp.
aghhhhhhh
Ok...one, I was slouching and shouldn't have been so my tummy is pushed out. Two, this is coming from a six year old. Three, she doesn't know anything.
But, still!
Yikes!
It's ironic because I had a training with my personal trainer scheduled today anyways! Ha!
(P.S. I signed up with a personal trainer - one that I used years ago. And before you get all I-can't-believe-you're-going-all-crazy-for-the-wedding I planned on doing this, this Summer BEFORE I got engaged! So there! I finally have a little bit of money to put towards this so I'm excited to go full out! We are meeting twice a week and she's telling me what to do on days that I don't see her! I am so excited. Today was awesome and I'm sore already but I'm excited for the results that I should get)
Have you ever gotten a comment like that, where it makes you feel awful?! From a kid? I love how brutally honest kids are, but MAN! Gimme a break!

27x27
I know a lot of bloggers do this, and I've always thought it'd be kinda cool to do. So I'm doing it...
I'm hoping that I can get these things done by October 7th, which leaves me about 4 months. I already have a few of them under way. Wish me luck! :)

Workout Crazy
So I worked out on Thursday, twice on Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and then twice today. So technically, I've worked out seven times in a row! Yikes! I know it's best to have a day of rest, but it's hard to stop once I'm on a roll!
AND I'm in some more step challenges with my co-workers, so that's extra motivation! I feel like I just have this non-stop burst of energy and motivation and I should use it while I have it!
Tomorrow I'm going to a Step and Sculpt class with a co-worker and then I might go back to the gym with Dan later on again. That's how I went twice tonight...I went to a half and half class where you do half cardio/dance and then half muscle conditioning with weights and the yoga ball. It was awesome, but I didn't feel as exhausted/sweaty as I wanted to. I came home, had dinner with Dan, and then I went to the gym again with him and just ran/walked on the treadmill for a while.
So the suggested amount of steps a regular person should take is about 10,000 steps a day (typically with "normal" size steps, 2,000 steps = 1 mile so that would mean walking about 5 miles a day is good). Well, I have been averaging way more than that. When my school day is over, I usually already have about 10,000 steps. Then I have my workout, and of course today with 2 workouts I got a TON of steps.
So how many did I get today? ...Are you ready? 28,082 steps!!
I know, crazy, right?! And awesome! Now all I need to see is the scale move some more (downwards please!) and then I'll be even happier!
Let's hope! I'll keep you updated :)
Have a great night!

Hoping my work will pay off
This week I worked out on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and twice on Friday. After I write this post, I'm going to go to the gym, and may even possibly go again later tonight. I am trying SO hard to lose some weight, and I haven't seen the scale move much at all yet, except for a pound or so. I know it takes a while, but seeing a difference (even a little) would be even more motivation for me.
I hope I see some serious movement soon-ish!
~~~~~~
Yesterday was a productive day. I went to the dentist and had a cleaning. I was so happy that I got a great report! All my flossing has paid off! Woo! I also went to my bladder doctor and that went well too. I took the day off to go to those appointments, and also to relax a bit. It was really nice waking up at 9am, instead of 6am. Sometimes you just need that!
I'm looking forward to the holidays, but I still can't believe it's so close! It just doesn't even feel like December right now!
I finished all of my holiday shopping on Black Friday (ohhh yeah!) so all I really have to do to finish is start my wrapping. Thankfully I have a lot of bags and tissue, which is my favorite kind of "wrapping."
Anyways, I'm off to the gym.
Happy Weekend!
Being good and seeing a little progress
So here are the things I've been trying to work on lately:
- Eating fresh food every day - I have been really good with this! Lately, I'm all about bananas and nectarines! Yum!
- Washing my face every night no matter what - Although sometimes it's a makeup remover wipe instead of a full face wash, I'm doing at least something every night to clean my face.
- Taking my meds and vitamins twice a day - I've been really good with this, and my bladder thanks me! I've also been taking these special vitamins for my skin, and I'm already seeing a difference! :)
- Flossing every day - I'm still struggling a bit with this, but slowly getting better.
- Working out more - Signing up for the Parks and Rec class has helped. The steps competition at school is also really motivating, because I know that I'll get a lot more steps when I work out.
- No more fast food, no exceptions - This has been surprisingly very easy. I didn't eat a lot before, but would occasionally have it when I didn't want to make dinner or make something for breakfast. But not any more!
- Because I'm flossing more, it's less painful (and bloody - sorry to be gross!)
- I haven't seen a change in weight loss yet, but I haven't gained any either, so that's something.
- My face is starting to clear up a bit since I've been washing my face more and taking the vitamins.
- I'm enjoying fruit and veggies now, so it's not a chore to buy them or put them in my lunches. I actually crave them now!
Who is that girl?
Do you ever look at photos of yourself and just think "Ugh! That can't be me!" I just looked at my friend Jen's wedding album online from the photographer and that's definitely what I thought when I saw the pictures of me. I was a bridesmaid, so I'm in a lot of photos, and honestly I'm only sort-of happy with maybe 2 of them (out of 100+ photos that I'm in). YUCK!
My first thought is that I looked like a plus size model for bridesmaid dresses. I literally had to double-take and make sure it was actually me. I know that this will be more motivation for me, but I really hate seeing photos like that. I hate knowing that Jen will have them of me forever! And I hate thinking that I've let myself get to that point! I was the queen of photos (both taking them and being in them) for such a long time, it's a weird feeling to not want to have your picture taken as much anymore.
Have you ever felt like that before?
This was my face when I saw those photos! I think Queen Liz would agree! |
Self-Control
I've had to have a lot of self conversations with myself about choosing the right things to eat...it's been hard!
Today at the mall I realllllllllly wanted a cheese steak but talked myself into a salad anyways.
Yesterday at Rita's I wanted a gelati, but opted for the fat free slenderita soft-serve instead.
I find myself cheating more and more, even given my sometimes successful self-conversations. I'm getting closer to running out of my points for Weight Watchers, and I haven't been working out as much. I really don't have a reason, other than just lack of motivation. I'm trying out a boot camp soon (I get a week free). It's realllyyy early in the morning, but from what I hear it's totally worth it. Maybe that's what will kick my butt into gear. I haven't really gained more weight, but I haven't lost any more either, so I know I have to do more about it...
Ugh. I remember the days where I could eat anything and just workout because I wanted to not because I had to. I miss those days!
Anyways, I'm not giving up. I plan on taking some classes next week at the gym, and hopefully that will help motivate me to not cheat as much with food too.
Tomorrow is my friend Jen's wedding. I'm excited about. It will be a looooonng day, but a great one. I feel bad that it's supposed to rain tomorrow. She wanted an outdoor ceremony so bad and even picked this venue with the outside setting in mind. Maybe the rain will hold up a little bit for her.
Have a good rest of the weekend!
Can't sleep? Sign up for fitness classes!
So it's 1am and I can't sleep. So I went online to find a parks and rec fitness class to enroll in for the Fall. They always have great classes that are affordable and fun. I've been debating about whether or not to get back into personal training and the only thing that has been stopping me is the money. Taking a class is a great solution because I'm still getting a great workout, but I'm not paying as much for it.
This is what I ended up choosing:
Trim & Tighten
12 yrs + / 24 classes, start dates below / $71
Toning and strengthening exercises for all muscle groups are set to music.
Bring a mat; 2- to 5-lb. hand weights are optional. Instructors are nationally
certified. Please consult a physician before beginning an exercise program.
Registration: 410-313-7275. Information: Nicola Morgal, 410-313-4718.
Jeanne Sealing ACE-Certified
RP8210.501 Burleigh Manor MS Sep 12 6:30-7:25 PM M & W
I love that it's twice a week, that it's strength training (I really don't enjoy using weights and I'm not very good at it), and it's very cheap at about $3 a class! My only wish is that it would start sooner!
I was tempted to sign up for this class as well:
Step & Sculpt! with Marianne Larkin, AAAI
12 yrs + / 12 classes starting Sep 17 / $62
Enjoy an invigorating Saturday morning wake-up call with this fun medium- to high intensity
75-minute class that has it all. Pump up your cardiovascular fitness and
challenge your brain with 45-50 minutes of turbo-charged combinations in the
latest in-step choreography. Knowledge of aerobic step terms is recommended.
Moves are demonstrated at various intensity levels so you can customize the workout
to fit your needs. Continue this total body workout with about 20 minutes of
strength, core and ab exercises using hand weights, medicine balls, stability balls
and resistance bands (provided) and finish with an energized stretch.
Registration: 410-313-7275. Information: Nicola Morgal, 410-313-4718.
RP8300.501 Gary J Arthur Comm Ctr 8:30-9:45 AM Sa
But I didn't, because I don't want to sign up for too much right away. I'm still thinking about it though. I might try and see if I have any friends who want to join with me...any takers?
I have a gym membership and love going to those classes as well, but doing the classes through parks and rec is so much fun and motivating because it's an extra fee that I paid for, so I feel like I HAVE to go even if I don't feel like working out that day.
I'm going to go and try to go to sleep again...hopefully this time it will work.
Good night :)
6 down, 15 more to go!
I lost another pound this week! I'm consistently losing about 1-2 pounds a week with Weight Watchers alone, so I'm thinking if I step it up more with my workouts (which I already have this week) I'll get it going even a little faster. :)
I'm so excited!
So far, I've lost a total of 6 pounds and 2 inches in 4 weeks!
Feeling Good, and starting to look good too!
So with the 3 pounds and 2 inches that I lost last week, and another pound this week, I'm feeling pretty great. I've gotten some compliments from friends and family about how my midsection looks smaller which is great to hear. As a typical woman, I am my own worst critic. So the fact that I have actually personally noticed a difference is HUGE for me. I can actually tell that I'm losing weight in the places that I had previously gained it.
And Weight Watchers has been a HUGE help. I've been really good about being honest with it (if I wanted to, I could just not log in all the foods that I eat during the day, or I could be dishonest with the servings). I feel like if I'm going to do this and be serious about it, I have to do it 100%. And I'm glad I have, because it's paying off!
In other news, I've been better with my money as well. :) I've never really been 'bad' with money, but I have never been great with saving money. Well a month ago or so, I set up a separate checking account where a certain portion of each paycheck goes into. I have been really great about not even looking at that money. My hope is that I can slowly start raising that amount per paycheck and save even more. But for now, it's baby steps. I'm still paying all of my bills on time as always, and I have been paying off my credit card every month as well. So I'm in good standing, and happy with it. I'm hoping to use a good part of my extra summer school money to help pay off my car which will make me really happy. After that's paid off, the only real debt that I will have is my student loan, which I consider to be good debt so that's ok.
Tomorrow is the first day of Summer School and I have to say that I'm surprisingly nervous. I am very confident in my teaching and always have been. But I'm starting a new program this year, and I'm working with a huge range of ages this year. The first two sessions or classes are made up of 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders for reading. I'm not as nervous for that, because I teach 5th grade all year round anyways. But the 3rd session I will be teaching science to kindergarteners and first graders. Totally outside my realm of experience! I know it will be fun, but of course I have butterflies, simply for the fear of the unknown.
Wish me luck!
I'm excited that I can reward myself for my hard work this week with a beach trip to VA this upcoming weekend! I have Monday off so I can stay a little longer, and I'm happy to get some relax time in with Dan and his family.
Have a great night everyone! :)
I caved...
I caved and signed up for Weight Watchers. After not having consistent weight loss with my own watch-what-I-eat-and-work-out-on-my-own plan, I figured why not just try something new. They were having a special this month anyways (who knows if it's actually a deal or not, but I bought into it) so I figured why not? Plus, I was also inspired by Angie's success with it and I've heard from other friends that it works really well.
WELL
it's awesome! In the past week or so that I have been using it, I've lost 3 pounds and 2 inches already! And I swear on my beloved calendars and fun pens (treasured items of mine, if you didn't know) that it's actually really easy to follow and use! :) I love that fruits and veggies (with the exception of a few) don't count as any points so I can have as many of those as I want in a day, which helps fill me up. I love eating fresh fruit all the time, it's like my dessert now and I actually crave it.
I even found some great recipes to try that I love!
I went to Docco's tonight and we made this one:
Chicken and Penne Casserole with Tomatoes and Goat Cheese Ingredients
It was yummy! :)
Anyways, losing a couple pounds and enjoying this new program gives me even more motivation to stick with it and lose some more!
- Heat 1 teaspoon of the oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Add the mushrooms and onion; cook, stirring frequently, until softened, about 8 minutes. Add the mushroom mixture to the pasta in the bowl. Stir in the tomatoes, chicken, beans, egg substitute, and broth. Spoon the mixture into the baking dish. Top with the goat cheese.
- Combine the bread crumbs, Parmesan cheese, and parsley with the remaining 1 teaspoon oil in a small bowl. Sprinkle the crumb mixture over the casserole. Bake, uncovered, until the topping is browned and the filling is hot and bubbly, about 40 minutes. Yields 1 cup per serving.
Anyways, losing a couple pounds and enjoying this new program gives me even more motivation to stick with it and lose some more!
Surprisingly, not a case of the Mondays*
Apparently I was in the mood to workout today!
*This morning at 7:15am I turned on exercise tv and did "AM Standing Abs" for 10 minutes before getting ready for work.
*After work, I took an hour long class at the gym called "Half and Half" where half of the class was cardio-dance and half was working out with weights (mostly arms, but also thighs and abs).
*Then, after the hour long class I decided that I still had energy so I should use it and spent 20 minutes on the cybex arc trainer machine!
I'm not sure what has gotten into me, but I like it!! hopefully I can stick with this motivation and energy and lose these pounds faster than I had hoped!
This week is super exciting and stressful all rolled up into one!
Monday: (today) My last observation was today! Woohoo!! It really well, and after this I will be tenured! Finally! I stayed at work until 6 today doing work, and then of course worked out. Oh, and it was the first day of Family Life today at school. LOL. I love teaching that unit! It always provides wonderful entertainment for us teachers!
Consistency: Yes. Excuses: No!
So here's what I have learned lately:
- I really need to try hard and stay consistent with my working out, otherwise it's almost as if I'm not doing anything. I can't expect to see results if I'm working out 4 times one week, and only once the next week.
- No excuses! I can take a nap and I can relax a little bit. But if I do, I still need to go and workout after. If I have time to nap, I have time to workout.
- Endorphins! I always feel really good after I workout, and I know that I'm doing the right thing so I try to keep that feeling in mind when I'm getting ready for the gym.
- Music is a big motivator! Take tonight for example...despite the setback of my Ipod not being charged, I made a new playlist to workout too, and while I'm waiting for it to charge, I did some cleaning around here. I'm not using it as an excuse to not workout. Instead, I'm just waiting (somewhat patiently) and going to the gym afterwards. Luckily, I have a half day tomorrow because of a doctor's appointment. So I can stay up a bit later tonight.
- When I take my vitamins I really do see a difference in both my results and energy level. I need to try and get past the yuckiness of them in the morning, because they do work!
- Water is wonderful! I am trying to drink a ton more lately, and although it does make me go to the bathroom more (obviously) it's great for my bladder condition, and it also fills me up! I've heard that sometimes when our brain is telling us we're hungry, we're actually thirsty. I think this is true! I've tried it a couple times lately: when I am hungry in between meals, I'll drink a bottle of water first and then if I'm still hungry I'll grab something small. But more often than not, I'm not as hungry anymore.
A 5K Weekend
So on Saturday, I woke up at 6am to run a 5K early in the morning with Katie for a program called Girls on the Run which promotes healthy living and exercise for young girls, as well as self confidence and respect. Although I am not a fan of waking up so early on a weekend day, I did enjoy it! We did intervals the whole time...walking, jogging (with a soft j), and sprinting the whole time. We finished the 5K at 47 minutes and 18 seconds. Pretty good considering we were doing intervals.
Then, today I did another 5K for Great Strides, which raises money for a cure for Cystic Fibrosis. A former student of mine (from last year) has CF and so do two other kids who go to my school. It's an awful disease and I definitely wanted to help out. This 5K was more of a walk, thank goodness. My legs were still exhausted from yesterday's run so it was nice to just take a nice and leisurely walk. I saw a few work faces there, and they even had entertainment (Kangaroo Kids!! Can I just say that if I thought a 25 year old could join, I would TOTALLY do it!! It was my life goal to be a Kangaroo Kid when I was younger).
I love all of this exercise-for-charity stuff! It makes your body feel good for getting some great exercise and it makes you feel good for donating towards a good cause. :)
Speaking of which, I have another walk in June coming up for Breast Cancer! :) If you want to donate towards my team, that would be lovely! If you want to come and walk with us, that'd be cool too!
I'm off to bed! Night :)
Feeling Productive & Happy
Today, I...
*Had a pretty good day at school. Got some things ready for lessons this week and next week ahead of time (which doesn't happen all the time, so that was nice).
*Went and got Mom a late Mother's Day gift (orange, yellow, and pink lilies). *She loved it :)
*Went grocery shopping - got lots of fresh fruit, granola bars, yogurts, and some things for lunches. (all things that encourage me to eat right!)
*Did the rest of my laundry and finished straightening up my room.
*Had a delicious dinner when I got home. I had a half hour or so to myself to just sit and relax.
*Saw the Chorus Concert at school (I always tell my kids that I'm their #1 fan, so I try to go to as many after school things like this as I can) :)
*Went to Target to get the things I forgot at the grocery store...and a shirt or two for work (not planned, but needed so I don't feel toooo guilty).
*Did P90X Plyometrics Workout DVD. HOLY SWEAT! There's no telling how many calories I burned, which is AWESOME...BUT my thighs are already killing me. I'm warning you now, there will definitely be whining tomorrow and especially the next day.
Now I'm off to take a long shower and then I'm going to jump in bed for some much needed rest. :)
Good night everyone!
